Trinity Tidings – March 2022
Teach me your ways,
O LORD:
Make them known to me.
Psalm 25:4
From Pastor Ann
My Dear Family in Christ:
As I write this, Ash Wednesday and the Lenten Season is upon us, and my thoughts turn to the true spiritual meaning of Lent. As you know, Lent is the way the church has always commemorated the 40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness, following his baptism. It was a time of austerity, temptation, and discernment. Traditionally, people have “given up something” for Lent, symbolic of the sacrifice and temptation of Jesus. You all know that I’m a big fan of “taking something on,” rather than (or in addition to) “giving something up.” What practice could you develop in the next 6 weeks that might deepen your relationship with God? Might it be a practice of self-care, such as eating healthy or regular movement/exercise? That’s a way of showing gratitude to God for the physical body you’ve been given. Might it be a regular practice of prayer or study? I encourage you to think on these things and develop a Lenten practice that will enrich your body and/or soul.
Our parish is coming to life again! We have decided to enhance our giving to the Trinity Food Pantry during Lent by focusing each week on some particular donation, mostly those things that our guests can’t purchase with their SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) benefit: things like personal care items, household and cleaning supplies, paper goods, perhaps even pet care supplies? Each week we’ll feature one of these things, and those that wish may bring their donations to church. We’ll bless them, and then move them downstairs to the parish hall for the pantry to distribute on Wednesday. In addition, Alyssa Kornacki is forming a “Peer-to-Peer” tutoring program that will be housed here at Trinity, and will be open to all area youth. She hopes to be available on Wednesday evening for the children of our Food Pantry guests. We are also developing outreach to both current homebound parishioners, and some of our friends who have drifted away during the Covid times. We are slowly emerging from our “Covid cocoon” to reach out in new ways!
My prayer is that you individually, and Trinity as a parish, may have a deep, meaningful, and holy Lenten Season.
