Trinity Tidings – April 2022

Scripture says

“Whoever believes in him

Will not be disappointed.”

Romans 10:11

From Pastor Ann

My Dear Family in Christ:

As I write this, we are halfway through Lent, and spring is approaching in Western New York (officially here, so says the calendar, but you all know how it is with spring around here!).  I find myself thinking and wondering about your Lenten practices, if you adopted any (giving up something, or taking on something new), and how they might be going.  It’s never too late, if you haven’t begun yet!

As spring arrives, it feels as though Trinity is waking up from a long nap (Covid related closings and restrictions), and we’re just yawning and stretching a little, but well-rested and full of energy.  Our Lenten outreach project for our Food Pantry is going splendidly, and our weekly attendance is on the rise. Our lay leadership is strong, enthusiastic, and working well together.  Our bible study, though not as large as in its heyday years ago, has doubled in size during Lent. We’ve begun to plan our old, reliable fundraisers (chicken barbecues, Mother’s Day plant sale, Snowflake Bazaar/ granny’s attic in the late fall), and participating in the Village-Wide Garage Sale May 21.  Alyssa Kornacki has initiated a new tutoring ministry for area students.  Food pantry clients have come back inside, and we have a weekly exercise class that meets in the undercroft.  It’s lovely to feel as though we’re coming back to life again as a parish family!  As for me, mindfulness is my Lenten practice, and part of that for me is writing regularly.  I’ve noticed that writing each day (in my journal or other sorts of more creative writing) helps me pay better attention to the world around me, both the beauty and the pain.  Many of us have been living out Lent with the Ukrainians in our hearts and minds and prayers, walking the Way of the Cross with that war-torn people.  I hope that the resurrection time of Easter (April 17 this year) brings them a resurrected hope and realization of peace in their land.

We will offer a full schedule of Holy Week services this year; I hope most of you will be able to attend one or more of them.  I always believe that as we walk the grief of Holy Week, it makes Easter Sunday all the more miraculous and glorious.  Come be a part of that here with your church family.  I pray that the remainder of Lent and your Easter celebrations are filled with meaning and joy.                                                                                                                                                                                                 Ann+
