Trinity Tidings – September 2022

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that

by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

Romans 15:13

From Pastor Ann

My Dear Family in Christ,

In late August as write this, its certainly still summer, but when I pay attention, there are definitely signs of fall in the air.  The mornings and evenings are cooler, the school supply ads are on the television, and the talk of helping kids “catch up” their learning from the two “Covid years” that disrupted their education. The crickets are louder than ever, the squirrels are scampering to collect their winter supplies, and the black-eyed Susans lend the deeper golden and brown colors of autumn to the summer landscape.  The lettuce in my window box garden is going to seed, and the pansies, which languished in the worst of the heat, are reviving and blooming once again. Yes, the earth keeps turning, and the seasons are about to change once again.  This, late summer, is truly the harvest thanksgiving season, rather than late November when we observe the holiday.

And this is the season (yet another season) when we need to remember to give thanks.  The summer has been a little dry, but we haven’t experienced the drought they’ve seen in the western US, and in other parts of the world.  We don’t have the wildfires, or severe flooding, or volcanoes, or killing heat that other parts of the country and the world experience.  We are truly blessed to be living in this little piece of Western New York paradise, and we should be grateful.  As I sit on my little porch in the morning with my coffee and notebook, I give thanks for my life and the place in which I “live and move and have my being.”  I hope you do, too.

Now the planning season for church is in full swing.  It looks as though our service time will change again, to 9:30 am, rather than 9.  Our survey results, though few in number, indicate that a later time for the Sunday service will be better.  A Confirmation/Inquirer’s class is being planned, in anticipation of the Bishop’s visit in December.  Bible Study and Healing Eucharist will resume in September.  The sleepy time of summer in the church is giving way to the hive of activity and planning we enter in the fall.  Plans for the Snowflake Bazaar, Granny’s Attic, are in the air.

I hope you all are enjoying your last lazy days of summer, and also beginning to feel the stir to more activity that the cooler weather and shorter days bring with them.  We look forward to seeing more of you in the fall, as we “come home to roost” at Trinity once again.

Our weekly service of Holy Eucharist and Bible Study will resume on Thursday, September 8 at 4:00 pm.  Please remember that you are welcome to attend either the Eucharist (beginning right at 4:00) or the Bible Study (which gets underway about 4:30) separately, if you can’t attend both.  Starting in the fall, we’ll be studying the Gospel of Matthew, which will be the main Gospel used on Sunday, beginning Advent 1, November 27.  This is a course that will last several months, but we’ll be getting a jump start by beginning our study now!  Please join us for some fun scriptural education!
