Trinity Tidings – July 2022
Everything is possible for the person who has faith.”
Mark 9:23
From Pastor Ann
My Dearest Family in Christ:
I write this very early in the month, before I leave for my vacation. We are grieving: for the families of members who have died, for the families of the victims of the hateful shooting right here in Buffalo, and for all those families in Uvalde, Texas, who have lost their beautiful children. We continue to pray for peace in Ukraine, and all those who have been displaced by the horrible war and destruction there. And of course, the spectre of Covid still hangs over us: those who have lost dear ones, who have feared for those they love (and themselves), and have endured years of isolation and separation. I read somewhere that, as the church moves out of the Great Fifty Days of Easter, it feels as though the world is stuck in Good Friday. We are still walking the way of the cross.
And yet, before our eyes, our beautiful Western New York summer has arrived! Yes, there are cool periods still (the flowers love that), but those warm, sunny, occasionally lazy days are here, when we can spend more time outside, and appreciate the beauty of the world. It’s a time of long days and little or no school, when families have more time together. I try to appreciate the icy beauty and indoor coziness of winter, really, I do, but it’s when the world turns green and flowery, and the beaches call to the sunbathers and swimmers, that I can really appreciate this world that we’ve been given to enjoy and care for. I hope that you’ll find the time and inclination to give thanks for summer beauty, as well.
My prayer for you this month is that we all can stay grateful, and notice the world around us. In the midst of so much tragedy, let’s enjoy the abundant beauty while we can. And I pray that no more tragedy befalls us, or our beloved community, or the larger world around us.
